An award-winning poet encouraged local school pupils to read more through a fun event at Paisley Central Library.

Joseph Coehlo, a former Waterstones Children’s Laureate, aims to inspire young people through stories and characters they can recognise, exploring themes which include fear, courage, diversity, gratitude, empathy and loss.

On Friday, the first day of Paisley Book Festival, Joseph read two books to children in Paisley Central Library, both from his ‘Luna Loves…’ series.

They were Luna Loves Library Day and Luna Loves Gardening – and he created a fantastic atmosphere, encouraging children to get involved through fun actions, questions and by creating their own poem around the sun.

Joseph said: “It was a delight and a pleasure to meet all the children who attended the event. I was really impressed with how excited they were to hear all about Luna’s adventures and how interactive they were when they helped me to create a poem about the sun.”

The library event was part of Paisley Book Festival’s inspiring schools programme, which involved hundreds of children from across the region.

The three-day festival runs until Sunday (April 27th).
