Brian Conaghan crafts stories that resonate deeply with readers of all ages. His breakout novel, When Mr Dog Bites (2014), was shortlisted for both the Carnegie Medal and the Children’s Books Ireland Award, marking the arrival of a bold new voice in Young Adult literature.

He followed this success with The Bombs That Brought Us Together (2016), which won the prestigious Costa Children’s Book Award. The following year, he collaborated with former Irish Laureate na nÓg Sarah Crossan on We Come Apart, a novel that clinched the United Kingdom Literary Award. His powerful and poignant The Weight of a Thousand Feathers (2018) earned both the Irish Teen & YA Irish Book of the Year and the Children’s Books Ireland Honour Award.

Conaghan’s The M Word (2019) was shortlisted for the Irish YA and Teen Book of the Year, while his Middle Grade novels, Cardboard Cowboys and Swimming on the Moon, have garnered multiple regional awards across the UK. His most recent work, Treacle Town, was named the Honour Book for Fiction at the 2024 KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Award and has been longlisted for the 2025 Carnegie Medal.

His new novel, Stealing Happy, is set for release in March 2025.
